Making Every Contact Count (MECC)

MECC Healthy Conversations is an approach that is used in millions of day to day interactions that organisations and individuals have with people, to support them in making positive changes, to both their physical and mental health and wellbeing.

Rather than telling people what to do, Making Every Contact Count is about recognising opportunities to talk to people about their wellbeing using the skills of asking and listening.

Smoking Training

Our Very Brief Intervention and Stop Smoking Practitioner training is open to all healthcare professionals, and those who wish to offer support to stop smoking within their organisation or make stop smoking referrals.

We offer Very Brief Advice training and Level 1 NCSCT or Level 2 NCSCT training sessions. We can also provide training on: Vape use, and ways you can support priority groups like pregnant women, people with serious mental illness, and Children & Young People.

A FREE one-hour training session: This can be delivered face to face at your workplace or online via Microsoft Teams. This training encourages staff to quit smoking and equips them to signpost others into our service. The session includes the following:

  • Bath & North East Somerset smoking statistics
  • Why people smoke and why it is difficult to quit
  • What is in a cigarette
  • How smoking affects us short term and long term
  • Top tips to quit smoking successfully
  • How to talk to others about smoking cessation
  • Everyone Health: the free support that is available and how to refer to us/get support
  • The training can be tailored to your service needs.
